Meet the Musician Mondays - Alison Williams

Surprise! It's not Monday, but we'd still like to introduce you to our fantastic 2nd oboe & English horn player Alison Williams! You can hear her play some absolutely gorgeous English horn lines in our next concert, which features the Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2! Save the date for April 14th, and see you there!

“My parents gave me a recorder in 2nd grade, and I used to play recorder with a group of retired women (I was only about 8!). In 3rd grade, I got a flute for Christmas and started lessons with a college student. I often would play in church. When I was about 12, I accidentally heard someone playing an oboe and I was hooked (or snake charmed). I've played oboe and English horn ever since. I'm a member of the Yale Medical School Symphony Orchestra and a group called Ad Hoc Bach that plays two concerts of Bach cantatas every year. I also love to play chamber music and attend an intensive Chamber Music Conference every summer. My first career was as a chemistry professor, and I still love science. I moved to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion work about 15 years ago and have my own consulting service. When I'm not working or playing my oboe, I love sports, especially rooting for Cleveland teams, nature, reading, cooking, and attending theater and dance productions. I like all genres of music. I once played with a rock band that reproduced Neil Young's London 1971 album.”
