Connecticut (Valley) Symphony Orchestra Announces Exciting Name Change Reflecting Its Vision for the Future
[West Hartford, August 1, 2023] - The Connecticut Valley Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce a significant milestone in its illustrious history – Effective immediately, the orchestra will be known as the “Connecticut Symphony Orchestra”, or the “CSO”. As Connecticut's premiere community orchestra, this rebranding initiative not only reflects the orchestra's commitment to musical excellence but also signifies its unwavering dedication to the communities it serves.
The decision to adopt the name Connecticut Symphony Orchestra comes as a natural evolution for the ensemble. Over the years, the orchestra has grown in reputation, expanding its reach across the state, and becoming synonymous with exceptional performances that captivate audiences of all ages. This change reflects the orchestra's aspiration to build upon its established legacy while embarking on a new chapter of artistic innovation and community engagement.
The decision to adopt the new name reflects the orchestra’s commitment to uphold its tradition of offering symphonic experiences that celebrate the richness of classical music and contemporary masterpieces alike for the community of West Hartford and beyond.
As the CSO embarks on this exciting new chapter, we are proud to invite esteemed guest conductors to lead this season's concerts. Among these distinguished individuals are Jeffrey Spenner from the US Coast Guard Band and Toshiyuki Shimada from the Eastern Connecticut Symphony and the New Britain Symphony. Additionally, we are delighted to showcase the conducting leadership of Dr. Mark Vickers and Kevin Kinsall, esteemed members of our own community. The season ahead is filled with a lineup of exhilarating works, masterpieces such as Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, Rimsky Korsakov’s Scheherazade, and the richly expressive Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2. We are privileged to present this season’s guest soloists, Kathryn Bowden (Metropolitan Opera, Queen of the Night) and Erik Andrusyak (principal oboist of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony and co-principal oboist at the US Coast Guard Band). Furthermore, as part of our commitment to fostering a love for music among families, we are thrilled to present our first Family Holiday Concert, a joyous celebration for all ages.
