Meet the Musician Monday - Mark Thornton
Mark Thornton began private lessons on Piano at age 7, Saxophone at age 9 and Bassoon at age 13. His instructor for 9 years was Cynthia Estill, Principal Bassoonist with the Nashville Symphony. Mark performed with the Nashville Community Concert Band, Williamson County Community Concert Band, Moonlighters Big Band and Radio Daze Big Band. After moving to Rhode Island in 2000, Mark performed with the Rhode Island Wind Ensemble, the American Band, the Narragansett Bay Symphony Community Orchestra, MetWinds in Boston. He currently plays with Noank-Mystic Community Bank, Waterford Community Band, Harvard Lane Clarinet Choir, and the Ocean State Clarinet Choir. He is also active in playing in pit orchestras for various theater ensembles.
